Point Grey is a neighbourhood on the western side of the city of Vancouver, BC. It is bordered by 16th Avenue to the south, Alma Street to the east, English Bay to the north, and Blanca Street to the west. Point Grey is adjacent to the University of British Columbia (UBC), and the area is well established as a premier neighborhood for the well-to-do families. Many owners of Point Grey homes take advantage of the high demand for accomodations by students, and rent out their basement suites in their homes.
The City of Vancouver has phased out the zoning restrictions, and now it is possible to have a legal secondary suite in a basement in Point Grey area subject to parking, fire separation, ceiling height, plumbing, gas and electrical bylaw requirements.
The main commercial area in Point Grey with shops and restaurants is along West 10th Avenue between Tolmie Street and Discovery Street. Some homes around West 4th Avenue have great ocean views overlooking the the English Bay and downtown Vancouver.
